In support of the company's long-standing commitment to sustainability, the Océ North America Production Printing Systems division has recently earned Certified Green Partners certification. In addition, to help customers assess the true environmental impact of their own print operations and achieve carbon neutral production, the Océ North America Production Printing Systems division is unveiling an Eco-calculator that measures the CO2 emissions of Océ production printing equipment, along with the Océ Eco Start Program to offset those emissions. Océ is one of the first companies to offer an Eco-calculator and carbon offset program for production-class printing equipment.

Océ Eco Start carbon offset program helps customers minimize eco-footprint

Océ environmental leadership goes beyond reducing its own carbon footprint. In response to rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere and the alarming ramifications of global warming, Océ North America has launched the Océ Eco Start Program. Through a partnership with Trees for the Future, Océ will plant trees to offset carbon emissions generated by production printing equipment purchased by Océ North America customers during the equipment's first year of operation to help customers get started with a full year of carbon offsets.

(March 16, 2010) – Océ Business Services, a leading provider of document process management technology and services, is implementing innovative document imaging solutions through its national imaging center located near Salt Lake City, Utah. The solutions are designed to help organizations cut costs, increase efficiency and gain a competitive edge in today's economic environment.

In one recent example, a leading financial services institution tapped Océ to help it reduce costs and space associated with physical content. Océ leveraged the extensive resources of its national imaging center to provide the solution.

Océ digitized over 1,350,000 pages comprised of employee retirement and human resources related documents. The imaging initiative enabled the company to significantly reduce the costs and physical space that would have been required to store and access a huge amount of paper-based content at one of its New York City area locations. February 3, 2009, Trumbull, CT– Océ, an international leader in digital document management, today announced its large format printers/plotters were rated best overall and Océ scanners received the "OPA Recommended" award in the 2009 annual Office Products Analyst (OPA) Print for Pay Survey.

Each year, the OPA asks commercial printers and publishing houses to rate the color printers they work with on a daily basis. The organization then compiles the results into its Print for Pay Survey. Surveys were completed via extensive telephone interviews and the internet over the course of six weeks. After a thorough validation process, the OPA had 296 responses represented in the study.

For the Wide Format Printer/Plotter portion of the study, respondents were asked to rate their large format printer/plotter on reliability, image quality, ease of use and productivity. Océ received high marks in all four categories, including the top ranking in reliability and productivity. The combined ranking of all four categories gave Océ the best overall rating for its wide format printer/plotters.

December 22, 2009 – NEW YORK, N.Y. – In the current economic environment, businesses continue to look for effective steps to contain costs and increase competitiveness. One area of potential savings, reduced risk and enhanced efficiency may come as a surprise to many organizations: document management activities such as print/copy, mail and records management.

Why a surprise? Because many organizations don’t know how much their document management activities cost as well as how more effective approaches could help reduce those costs and improve efficiency. The good news is that there are document management activities – whether outsourced or managed internally – that can yield important business benefits. Océ spotlights three of them to consider for 2010:

Print/Copy Management – According to industry analyst Gartner, most enterprises do not manage their office printers well, having too much and often the wrong equipment and supplies for their needs. Actively managing office print can reduce spending by 10 to 30 percent while reaping real environmental benefits (“Key Issues for Print Management, 2008,” Pete Basiliere, March 2008). One print/copy management best practice - replacing personal desktop printers with workgroup MFPs (multifunction peripherals that combine print/copy/scan/fax functionality in one machine) shared by departments - can have a strong positive impact. One financial services company replaced 1,100 copiers and printers and 1,000 fax machines with 400 MFPs. The initiative eliminated 1,700 machines that no longer consume resources based on their manufacture, transportation, operation, maintenance, and eventual disposal.

Digital Mail – There are several approaches to the digital mail process. One is to convert incoming mail from physical to digital in the mailroom by scanning all mail capable of being scanned and then utilizing workflow processes for distribution. The digital images are stored in a database where, after being notified by email, employees can access them via a Web portal with password protection and interactive functions. Benefits of this approach include faster access to incoming documents and information, particularly for employees who are traveling or located in satellite offices. Other benefits include the ability to suppress non-essential company mail from entering the organization; a potential reduction in labor and facilities by centralizing multiple mail centers into one; and an opportunity to support “green” initiatives by reducing paper usage. Digital mail can be well-:suited for companies that receive a high volume of mail every month, including a high number of critical documents. Other factors include the number of employees who are mobile and telecommute, as well as the company’s desire to implement a centralized scanning solution and reduce paper.

Canon intends to acquire all ordinary shares of Océ through an all cash public offer

• Canon intends to make an offer of € 8.60 per Share (cum dividend) for 100% of the outstanding Shares of Océ, representing a premium of 70% over Océ's closing share price of Friday 13 November 2009 and 137% to the average share price over the last 12 months;
• The Management and Supervisory Boards of Océ fully and unanimously support and will recommend the intended Offer;
• Holders of the depository receipts for Océ's cumulative preference shares, Ducatus, ASR and ING (approximately 19% of the total share capital), agreed to sell their interests to Canon; large shareholder Bestinver Gestion S.A. 16 November 2009 – Canon and Océ today announced that they have reached conditional agreement to combine their printing activities through a fully self-funded, public cash offer by Canon for all the Shares of Océ. The offer price of € 8.60 per Share of Océ (the "Offer") represents a premium of 70% over the closing share price of Friday 13 November 2009 and 137% to the average closing price of Océ's Shares over the last 12 months. The Offer values 100% of the issued and outstanding Shares of Océ at approximately € 730 million.
