Symcor, the biggest transactional printer in Canada, has led its market in bringing transpromo communications to financial customers. Their first Océ JetStream printer helped Symcor make the strategic shift from basic transaction and conventional monochrome printing to full color variable output. With the second Océ system in Toronto, Symcor will reinforce its commitment to transpromo leadership with the quality and production power to dominate the Canadian market. "Océ was very supportive in understanding our business model, and this was critical for us," said Normand Allard, Director of Product Management at Symcor.

Prepared for New Business

The full-color Océ JetStream 1500 inkjet digital printing system is designed to maximize productivity in corporate and commercial print environments. The printer produces full-color variable data output at ultra-high speed with exceptional quality, and supports monthly duty cycles of up to 40 million impressions.

Symcor's first Océ JetStream system was installed a little over a year ago. It now runs at full capacity as it handles the additional color business. To continue adding new accounts, Symcor couldn't be caught short on capacity and recognized the need for a second system.

Maps are scaled back prior to printing because printers lack sufficient processing speed and cannot handle the required file size, detail or depth.

During the conference, Océ will display an innovative solution to solve plotting issues in GIS workflows ™ the Océ ColorWave® 600 printer. This all-around productive system ensures users can meet tight deadlines without sacrificing layers of detailed information. The printer can produce up to 30 full color 30" x 42" maps per hour and the embedded Océ PowerM® Plus controller ensures processing times of complex GIS files are not a bottleneck.

This is the world's first stacker that stacks many types of inkjet media on top of the printer, reducing space requirements to a minimum.

Traditionally, collecting and stacking large format inkjet prints is cumbersome. Prints are usually delivered in a tray or bag in front or behind the printer. As a consequence, the order of the prints gets lost, and it can be troublesome finding the right print. Moreover, there is also a high risk of damaging the print. This situation can be improved with a flat stacking table behind or in front of the printer. However, these tables not only occupy considerable floor space but also consume significant energy by applying a heated roll to flatten out the curl of the inkjet media.

Exceptional image quality, productivity and ink economy with Océ VariaDot imaging technology

The Océ Arizona 550 XT printer uses Océ VariaDot imaging technology that enables a printhead to produce ink droplets of variable size resulting in variable sized dots on the printed media. The ability to jet small droplets produces sharp images with smoother gradients and quartertones. The ability to jet larger droplets produces dense, uniform solids. The result is near-photographic image quality with sharpness only before seen at resolutions of 1,440 dpi or higher. Venlo, The Netherlands, 16 June 2010 – Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced that the Digital Printing Deinking Alliance (DPDA) shared the first of a series of scientific research investigations into the deinkability of inkjet printed papers at the PTS Deinking Symposium held recently in Munich, Germany. Océ is a member of DPDA.

Deinking inkjet prints
In a study conducted by a leading research organization and expert in the field of recycling technologies, Centre Technique du Papier (CTP) of Grenoble, France, inkjet prints were successfully deinked in a procedure designed to replicate a typical European mixed grade waste paper recycling system.

Presenting on behalf of the DPDA, Gary Williams, PE, Paper Scientist of InfoPrint Solutions Company, reviewed the CTP research data with leading industry experts gathered at this international Deinking Symposium. “Our first study was intended to prepare a baseline for future testing of inkjet prints. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that all samples proved to be successfully deinked in test conditions that included bleaching,” said Williams.

Encouraging results
The test samples were printed using standard aqueous dye-based inkjet inks on uncoated woodfree paper. DPDA members prepared blind samples using three representative dye-based inksets for the study and tested under conditions designed to be representative of current deinking technology for processing mixed grades of recovered paper. In the study, all colorants tested were successfully deinked when hydrosulphite bleach was added after the repulping process. In one case, ink colorants were successfully deinked using peroxide only, which is a typical chemistry used in virtually all repulping systems. In both cases, the bleached pulp met the deinked pulp quality requirements.
