AlphaGraphics of Seattle Increases Profitability and Productivity with Océ VarioPrint 6250 System

MAY 5, 2008 – Trumbull, CT– Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, announced today that AlphaGraphics of Seattle has increased its profitability and productivity by adopting award-winning Oce VarioPrint® 6250 system with Océ Gemini Instant Duplex technology. AlphaGraphics of Seattle has been rated one of the Top 100 fastest growing, privately owned companies in Washington for the past four years. Customers’ print jobs range from modest mail merges to complex projects of more than 20 variables. The award-winning Océ VarioPrint 6250 production printer handles most of the static sheet-fed production, such as large runs of manuals or training materials. AlphaGraphics of Seattle owner Chuck Stempler noted, “We have benefited from increased productivity, exceptional quality and flexible media handling. Many customers prefer the quality of the Océ VarioPrint output, and that’s a difference we can use to our advantage.”
More Power per Square Foot
Stempler calls the Océ VarioPrint 6250 an “awesome” production machine. “Reason number one is the raw power per square foot. We are in a heavily populated urban environment, so space is at a premium. With 250 images per minute versus 120 on our previous systems, it’s like having two machines, but the space requirement of just one. It’s a huge benefit to get twice the capacity for the same footprint and the same labor.”

More Horsepower, Fewer People
In addition, producing the same amount of work now requires less labor per printed sheet because productivity drivers like the printer’s large paper capacity minimize operator intervention. “The machine is going twice as fast, but it can go a long time before we have to add paper. By extending the time between maintenance, we can spread our people across more machines, extending our labor-to-machine ratio. One business benefit is that it increases our profitability model,” said Stempler.
Unmatched Uptime
After installing the Océ VarioPrint 6250 in 2007, AlphaGraphics of Seattle ran over 11 million impressions in five months with only four service calls. “This is a new standard for uptime that the competition can’t come close to,” he declared. “At two million impressions per service call, the system is a remarkable ten times better than our previous model.”
Simple Integration
The system easily integrated into existing AlphaGraphics of Seattle workflow. “We didn’t redo any applications so everything could go right into production. Operators can still drive production through the existing Xerox DigiPath® workflow using Océ DPlink™ software,” said Mr. Stempler.
